Mexican American War.
Because the United States was victorious in the Mexican American war, we were
able to gain and expand the size of our lands in the western part of America,
allowing citizens to head west. When the peace treaty was signed to end the
war, this caused America to gain vast amounts of new land and therefore
our nation was able to expand westward more quickly. On February 2 1848
the Guadalupe of Hidalgo peace treaty was signed, the treaty established the
following. Mexico would agree to give up its claim to Texas along with selling
American lands such as, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Kansas.
The Mexican American war began in 1846 and finally ended in 1848 when America
captured Mexico City causing them to sign a peace treaty aka the Guadalupe
Hidalgo peace treaty. Because the Americas captured the capital of Mexico the
war stopped and everyone signed a peace treaty claiming that Mexico would give
up Texas and many other lands. Because Mexico had to give up Texas and plenty
of land they owned they did not benefit from the peace treaty besides not
continuing the war with America. After America captured the capital of Mexico
they ended the war and signed a peace treaty which everyone agreed with. After
Americas saw that America had gained new land and ended the war many people
moved to the west and expanded. Santa Anna had many problems as a leader making Mexico became weaker and weaker, and therefore our nation was able to expand westward more quickly. Santa Anna was elected president on 1833, after he was elected the army marched into Texas causing the famous fall of Alamo in 1836. Once they ended there was a final sweep that split his army into rebels and the ones who fought with him. The result affected the campaign which led to the battle of San Jacito all the battles were unsuccessful causing Santa Anna to panic. Because Santa Anna was elected president he became greedy taking his army were they weren’t needed. This caused many unwanted battles that resulted in failed, and it gave America more opportunities to trick the Mexican Government. The Mexican government had many problems and a battle against the rebels was not beneficial for them because both rebels and American, causing Mexico to become weaker, attacked them. Once the peace treaty was signed, America gained most of the land that belonged to Mexico, which later helped it become a country. But for the Mexicans that had worked hard for their land, they later lost most of it causing them to have conflicts with America further on. This helped us learn that some people win and others loose. But we can prevent conflict later on if we take don’t want everything to result in war, but verbal agreement.
